Outlaw Prez Mike Schelling "Finding his voice again"
Mike Schelling moved to Nashville 12 years ago with a suitcase, his guitar and a dream. He had aspirations of writing and performing his songs for the masses. 12 years later he can look back at a pretty good track record. "For a guy who didn't have a musical background I'd say I've done pretty good!" Making a decent living in Southern California in the mid nineties selling real estate, Mike decided he wanted to pursue his dream of becoming a professional songwriter. Just like that. A chance encounter with one of his idols Mark Collie and the rest was history. When Mike moved to town Collie showed him the ropes in Music City. "He gave me access to music industry big wigs and artists, I wasn't sure what to do with my new contacts." over the years Mike honed his writing skills with top writers. He had the fortune of working closely with Mark Collie during his huge tour with Tim Mcgraw and Kenny Chesney. "That was a mind blowing experience. I was like..that's Faith Hill right next to me!!"
As Mike's career blossomed, he started to find his own niche in Nashville. he began working with up and coming artists, developing their image and song choices. "There's not a better feeling than helping someone feel confident in their artistry." Mike formed a friendship with Country Thunder recording artist Shawn Hammonds. In their first writing session they penned "I Don't Give A Damn", an introspective look into every man's journey. They knew right away they were put together for a reason. Mike became Shawn's writing partner, helping him write songs for his upcoming album release as well as guiding him as a manager. "I am determined to get Shawn to the forefront of Country Music. He is the real deal."
Mike realized that he has been so busy writing for other artists, that he was starting to lose touch with who he was an artist and a writer. "I picked up the guitar at home and started to play some of my old songs and remembered how good it felt to be me, to play songs that represented me." Mike will be playing acoustic and full band shows this summer to get back on track. He will be playing an intimate acoustic show with writing partner and friend, Deseray in Antioch Tennessee on June 5th. He is scheduling casino shows as well as a southern tour to Louisiana.
